Marten, Dewaine Charles (28 Mar. 1928 - 21 Jan. 2006)

LAKE MILLS - Dewaine C. "Pee Wee" Marten, 77, formerly of Beaver Dam, died Saturday, Jan. 21, 2006, at Willowbrook Nursing Home in Lake Mills following a brief illness.

Friends may call at the Murray Funeral Home in Beaver Dam on Tuesday, Jan. 24, from 4 to 7 p.m., and on Wednesday, Jan. 25, from 10 to 11 a.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Reeseville Cemetery.

Dewaine Charles Marten was born on March 28, 1928 in Loyal, Wis., to William and Elsie (Schmidt) Marten.

Dewaine served in the U.S. Army from 1947 to 1950. On June 11, 1949, he was united in marriage with Betty Burbridge in Jeffersonville, Ind.; together, they had five children. Betty preceded Dewaine in death on May 24, 1978. On Aug. 24, 1984, he was united in marriage with Patricia Kurkowski. She preceded him in death on May 31, 2004.

"Pee Wee" worked for Carm Grain Co. in Juneau, Farmrite Sprayer in Lake Mills, and then 18 years for Hanefeld Brothers. He moved from Reeseville to Beaver Dam, where he lived for many years before spending the past nine months with his daughter in Blanchardville. Dewaine enjoyed gardening, tinkering around the house, feeding the birds and building bird houses. He also enjoyed spending time with his family.

Survivors include one daughter, Linda (Mitchell) Blank, Blanchardville; one son, James (Barbara) Marten, Beaver Dam; nine grandchildren, Tracy (Aaron Johnson) Marten, Ft. Atkinson, Greg Marten, Lake Mills, Jackie (Bill) Smith, Lake Mills, Kim (Rodney) Mundt, Johnson Creek, Tina (Rick) Paul, Beaver Dam, Jimmy John (Jill) Marten, Florida, Tammy Bruhn (fiancee Lawrence Boling), Kansas, Nicole (Brent) Corpora, Madison, Guy Belanger, Blanchardville; 13 great-grandchildren, Amanda Marten, Ricki, Megan and Tyler Smith, Brandon and Alyvia Mundt, Morgan and Logan Paul, Katlyn Klingklam, Taylor, Tasha and Trevor, and Austin Lesperance; one sister, Mabel Bunkelman, Chippewa Falls; two brothers, Eugene Marten, Loyal, and William (Arlene) Marten, Yucca Valley, Calif.; other relatives and friends.

Dewaine was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Betty; his second wife, Patricia; three children, Susan Marten, Janet Marten, and Mark Marten, and one sister, Lorraine Kobs.
