ZION, Ill. -- Martina Catherine (Michalski) Smith, 82, of Zion, died Aug. 20, 2006, at her home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Humility Church, Beach Park, Ill. Interment will follow at Ascension Cemetery, Libertyville, Ill.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Congdon Funeral Home in Zion.

Martina was born Aug. 14, 1924, in Loyal, to William and Margaret Michalski of Marshfield. She was married to Robert L. "Vern" Smith. He preceded her in death.

She worked as a nurse and was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker.

Martina is survived by her five children, Robert L. (Marilyn Prahl) Smith Jr. of Round Lake Beach, Ill., Catherine (Terry) Oatsvall of Bristol, David M. Smith of Phoenix, Patricia (Lester Butler) Casey of Zion, Ill., and William (Pam) Smith of Paw Paw, Mich.; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lois Michalski and Judy (Dale) Brumbaugh, and a brother, Marvin (Lorraine) Michalski.
