EDGERTON, WI - Harriet M. Carrier, 80, of Edgerton, passed away Friday, Aug. 4, 2006, after a short illness. She was born on Aug. 3, 1926, in Owen, WI, daughter of the late John and Martha (Ness) Marking. Harriet graduated from Owen High School and UW Stevens Point with a Bachelor's Degree in Vocal Music. She moved to Edgerton in 1951 to take her first teaching job at the elementary school where she taught 5th grade and music. She married Donald F. Carrier June 13, 1953, in Central Lutheran Church in Edgerton. He died on March 27, 1983.
Harriet was a member of Central Lutheran Church, member of the church choir for over 56 years and was choir director for several years. She was the youth choir director and started the handbell choir at Central. She also served on the church council and was a member of the Ruth circle and Senior Ladies and Krazy Quilters. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, library board, Retired Teachers Association, and very active in the community in many ways. She enjoyed traveling, bowling, golfing, was an avid reader, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Harriet is survived by 2 daughters, Andrea (Mark) Otis of Janesville and Betsie (Roger) Thompson of Edgerton; grandchildren: Kara Otis, Jim Otis, Anna Hinkel, Chelcie Hinkel, Bryce Hinkel, Shannon (Paul) Gregory, Morgan Sims, Wes (Michelle) Otis, Calista Thompson, Tina (Brian) Albrecht and Teresa (Kirk) Keller; great-grandchildren: Ryan Gregory, Veronica Rose Otis, T.J. Knuston, Kendra Thompson; sisters: Theresa Powers of Prairie DuChien; Marge Compton of Lake Villa, IL; Dorothy (Herm) Rabska of Withee, WI; special sisters-in-law, Joyce Amundson and Norma Carrier both of Edgerton; several nieces and nephews and many good friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; brothers, John Marking and Gordon Marking; and sisters: Jan Clark, Fran Pusey, Eunice Davison and Bonnie Hansen.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2006, at Central Lutheran Church, with Pastor Ed Paape officiating. Burial will be in the Jenson Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Whitcomb-Lynch-Albrecht Funeral Home, Edgerton.
