Mr. and Mrs. Joe Peterson and family of Black River Falls, Mr. and Mrs. George Shaw and daughter, Town of York, and Rollie Smith of Altoona spent Sunday here at the Arthur Smith home. Mrs. Peterson and Rollie are a daughter and a son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Smith. Mrs. Shaw being Mrs. Smith’s sister. The gathering was held to observe Mrs. Smith’s Birthday anniversary.
Mrs. L. M. Millard returned home Friday after a few weeks visit at Deerfield and Platteville, visiting, Mr. and Mrs. V. C. Woelffer at the former place.
Mesdames Margaret Farrand and Rose Schiller went to Minneapolis Monday to spend a few days on business.
Miss Marguerite Gallagher, who teaches at Taylor, Wis., was here for a weekend visit with home folks.
Mr. and MRs. James Marx and daughters, Audrey and Linda, Eau Claire, spent Sudnay here with her brothers, Frank and Tony Svelik and the former’s family.
Mrs. Henry Rahn and her mother, Mrs. James Milton, drove to Marshfield Thursday to visit their sister and daughters, Miss Deloris Milton, who was a patient in the hospital, suffering with streptococcus infection. Mrs. Robert Thompson and Mrs. Daisy Badnert accompanied them to visit Mrs. Donald Speich of Greenwood who also was a patient there. Both young women were able to return to their homes the first of the week.
Mr. and Mrs. Herman Werner of Brooks, Wis., arrived here Saturday to spend three or four days with friends.
Miss Lela Racine, instructor in the Ladysmith high school, spent the weekend here with her mother, Mrs. Elsie Raine. She came from Eau Claire where she attended the teachers’ convention.
Miss Edna Wall, instructor in the history department of the River Falls high school, came home Friday after attending the teachers convention at Eau Claire, to spent the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Wall.
James Reimer of Spooner spent from Thursday night, until Saturday night with his son, Robert Reimer, and wife.
Mrs. I. D. Lennie and daughter, Mrs. J. E. Peterson, and children, Joan and Janet - twins, and Jackie, Eau Claire, spent the weekend with Mrs. Lennie’s sister, Mrs. M. La Stofka and family.
Mr. and Mrs. Warren La Croix returned home to Chicago Saturday after spending a few days with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Erwin Moldenhauer.
Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Stevens and baby Helen, Bruce, Wis., arrived Thursday night to spend a week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leland Davis.
Miss Beatrice Mac Millan left Thursday for Lima, Ohio, for a two weeks’ visit with her sister, Mrs. Frank Cutter, and family. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Wing of Abbotsford are staying at the Mrs. Mary Mac Millan home during her absence.
Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Lindekigel and son, Bud, Marshfield, were here on business Saturday and also called on their daughter, Miss Eleanor, who is employed at the Neillsville Beauty Salon.
Mrs. Ernest Campball and son, Gordon, and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Lynch and children drove up from Milwaukee Saturday morning to spend the weekend with relatives. Mrs. Campbell will remain for a week to rent their home or to close it for the winter. The balance of the party returned to the city the first of the week. Mrs. Gordon Campbell and baby accompanying them after a week’s visit with her folks.
Lee Sweetland, Ottawa, Ill., and Cart and Macon Sweetland, Pittsburgh, Pa, spent three days last week with old friends here. The gentlemen are bothers, sons of the late Charlie Sweetland, who lived on the farm now owned by Herman Arndt in the town of Hewett.
Mrs. M. Lastofka and daughter, Miss Doris, are doing the cleaning and painting job required to put their property on South Hewett street into condition to rent as a two apartment house.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Christensen of Madison arrived here Friday to spend a short time with her folks, Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Schmedel.
Mrs. John Charles came up from Milwaukee Wednesday night to spend a few days with friends and to attend to business matters. She left Saturday morning for Princeton, Wis., to spend Sunday with her sister, Mrs. A. E. Hartwell, going from there to Milwaukee that afternoon with her brother H. Hansen, and wife.
Mrs. Marcus Hoesly returned home Wednesday night after visiting for several weeks at New Glarus, Milton Junction and Milwaukee.
Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Wren, returned from West Bend Friday where they have been visiting their son, Elmer, and Mr. and Mrs. Louis Cardarelle, and family.
Mrs. George Huckstead of Oconomowoc arrived Saturday to make her home here for a time**Portion cut off here**
**Portion cut off here**Grant is Mrs. Huckstead’s only daughter. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Counsell and two children of Kilbourn brought Mrs. Huckstead here, being dinner guests at the Stanley home and supper and over-night guests at Mrs. Elmer Counsell’s. On Sunday, they visited at Marshfield before going home to Kilbourn.
Mr. and Mrs. Peter Schaefer and James Donahue called on Mrs. Donahue at the hospital at Marshfield Last Thursday.
Mrs. D. E. Frei, nee Marcia Janke, drove to Eau Claire Friday to visit Mrs. Frank Thoma of Black River Falls, who is very ill in the sanatorium there.
Mr. and Mrs. T. F. Lefstad, Menomonie, and their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Max Lefstad and baby, Wisconsin Rapids, were recent guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. B. J. Benson. Mrs. Benson’s sister, Mrs. Martha Butterfield, who spent a few weeks here, accompanied the Lefstads home to Menomonie. Four generations were brought together in the gathering.
Mr. and Mrs. Ben Thoma and their daughter, Miss Virginia, left the first of the week for Phoenix, Ariz., where they expect to make their home, having sold their household effects at auction on Saturday. The change is being made in the hope that the young woman’s health may be benefitted by the change of climate. The elder daughter, Helen, who is employed here, has rented the upper apartment of the Leo Miller house on East Sixth Street. Miss Vin Wildish, who formerly occupied those rooms, has moved to the first floor of the same building.
Miss Eleanor Lindekugel spent Sunday with her friend, Miss Elizabeth Embke, in the town of York.
Carl Gerold arrived Friday night from Port Washington to spend the weekend with his family at the Emil Ketel home. Mrs. Gerold and children, who had been here for a week, accompanied her husband home Sunday.
