Evans, Jane M. (22 APR 1939)

Grange Avenue Methodist Church at Racine was the scene of an impressive wedding ceremony on Saturday evening at seven o’clock when Miss Jane Millicent Evans, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T.H. Evans of Racine, became the bride of Carl Douglas Matthias, son of Mr. and Mrs. F.H. Matthias of Curtiss (Clark Co., Wis.).

Palms, calla lilies and gladioli decorated the church for the candlelight service performed by Rev. Granville Calhoun, D.D. The lighted tapers in candelabra graced the church altar and lighted candles were place on the pews.

For the wedding the bride chose a gown fashioned of white marquisette over white taffeta. Her white finger tipped veil was held in place by sprays of orange blossoms and she carried a bouquet of roses, sweet peas and-forget me-nots.

Mrs. Robert Trussel, the bridesmaid, was gowned in miniature blue lace over taffeta and carried a bouquet of sweet peas and forget me nots.

Mrs. George Woodward, the matron of honor, wore marquisette and lace in peach over taffeta and carried a bouquet similar to Mrs. Trussel’s.

Franklin Matthias attended his brother as best man; Robert Trussel as groomsman; William Smith and Paul Wahler were ushers.

Mrs. Margaret Owen played during the ceremony and Aage Jensen sang two solos, O Promise Me and Because.

Out of town guests attending were Mrs. Frank H. Matthias of Curtiss; Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Matthias of Knoxville, Tenn.; Mrs. G. Simpson, Dorothy Simpson, Mr. and Mrs. William Adams, and Mrs. Earl Ray of Milwaukee; Miss Thea Thompson of Beloit; Mr. and Mrs. Allan Dewey, Mrs. A. Rosengren, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Bright of Webster Springs, Ill.; Mrs. Oral Monroe of Madison; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Pagel of La Porte, Ill.; Mrs. Willoughby Lowe of Denver, Col.; Mr. and Mrs. George Nelson of Chicago.

After May 15 they will be at home in Norfolk, Va., where Mr. Matthias is stationed as an army engineer.

The bridegroom is a graduate of the Abbotsford, Wis. High School and University of Wisconsin College of engineering and is affiliated with Chi Epsilon, honorary civil engineering fraternity.

The bride is a graduate of the Washington Park High School in Racine and has been employed in the offices of the Western Printing and Lithography Co. at Racine.
