Matthias, Vernon (22 AUG 1925 - 12 OCT 1939)
Vernon Emil Matthias passed away at the home of his parents, Emil and Carrie Matthias in Green Grove Township (Clark Co., Wis.), Thursday evening, Oct. 12, 1939, at 11:25 p.m., after being in ill health for almost five years.
Vernon was born Aug. 22, 1925, and was 14 years, 1 month and 20 days old at the time of his passing.
He was a devoted member of the Rural Union Sunday School from infancy and a member of the Owen Congregational Church.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from the Rural Union Chapel at two p.m. The Rev. W.P.D. Powell of the Owen Congregational Church in Charge. During the services the choir sang "Safe In the Arms of Jesus," "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Sometime We’ll Understand."
Casket attendants were William Hingiss Jr., Ebner Gustafson, Louis Edwards, Gail Beck, Duane Morscheck and Arvid Lindgren.
Flower bearers were Catherine Hingiss, Vonnie Marscheck, Marion Gustafson, Dorthalen Edwards, Frances Gustafson and Mary Edwards.
Vernon leaves to mourn his passing, his parents, two brothers, Robert of San Diego, Calif., and Dale at home; his aged grandfather, C.N. Danielsen; several aunts and uncles and other relatives and a host of friends.
