Poppe, Gustavus #2 (1 SEP 1855 - 3 FEB 1940)
Funeral services were conducted at two o’clock Monday afternoon, Feb. 5, for Gustavus Poppe with Rev. W.P.D. Powe officiating. Mr. Poppe, who had resided in Clark County and near Owen for a number of years was well known and possessed a large number of friends. At the time of his passing he was 84 years, 5 months and 2 days of age.
He was born in 1855 in Germany, where he lived to two years before his parents and family left Germany, moving to Canada. For the next 17 years of his life he lived in Canada, until 19 years of age which time he moved into the United States, settling at Sheboygan, where he lived for a while and then moved on into Clark County near Owen, where he and his family have since made their home.
When a young man Mr. Poppe was united in marriage to Miss Augusta Kotzer and to this union were born five children, two sons and three daughters, of which four are still living, one daughter passing away in 1929.
Those left to survive his passing are his daughters, Louisa and Delia; and sons, George and Edward, besides three brothers, thirteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Special music was rendered at the ser by Mrs. Powe and Miss Dorothy Marking, who were accompanied by Miss Betty Dike at the organ.
