Hartung, John (18 April 1862 - 15 Jan. 1943)
The long and useful life of John Hartung, for forty years a resident of the town of Pine Valley, this county, was terminated on Friday, Jan. 15, 1943, at his farm home. Although Mr. Hartung had been in poor health for some time, bronchial pneumonia was the direct cause of his death.
The departed was born to John and Maria Hartung April 18, 1862. On June 16, 1888, he was united in marriage with Margaret Wiederhold at Dickeysville, Wis. Mr. and Mrs. Hartung were the parents of twelve children, two of them, John and Albert, preceding the father in death. Surviving, beside the wife are the following children:
Henry, Anthony and Rosaline at home; George, Platteville; Joe, Neillsville; Lena, Chicago, Elizabeth, Mrs. Frank Heinz, Milwaukee; Frank and Arthur, Chicago, and Clarence of Rochester, Mich. He is survived also by a sister, Mrs. Minnie Kall of Rock Island, Ill. A brother, Joe, preceded him in death.
Mr. and Mrs. Hartung came to Clark County forty years ago purchasing the J. W. Sturdevant farm **[Portion missing here.]**
**[Portion missing here.]** road committee in his township for many years, also acting for years as a member of the school board.
Mr. and Mrs. Hartung celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1938.
A rosary service was held Sunday evening at the Schiller-Terhune Funeral Home, funeral service taking place Tuesday, Jan. 19, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Rev. Father J. A. Biegler officiating.
