Gutenberger, Albert (2 May 1872 - 21 May 1942)

Albert Gutenberger died at his home in Colby last Thursday night at 8:30 at the age of 70 years after a lingering illness of six months due to cancer of the stomach. The funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 1:45 o’clock at the Lulloff Funeral Home in Colby, Wis., and at 2:00 o’clock at the First Evangelical and Reformed church. Rev. S. A. Schmiechen officiated at the services and burial was made in the Colby cemetery.

Pall bearers were August Schoelzel, Wm. Schmidt, Ernst Schultz, Joe Sazama, John Schlimm and George Tesmer. Those in charge of the flowers were Rita and Eileen Gutenberger and Darlene and Doris Schoelzel.

Mr. Gutenberger was born on May 2, 1872, in the town of Mosil, Manitowoc county, near Sheboygan. He was married to Frieda Meves on Oct. 24, 1898, and they moved to Colby in 1911 and operated a farm. They retired fourteen years ago and lived in the city of Colby, Wis.

Surviving are his widow, four sons and one daughter - Stuart of Nampa, Idaho, Elroy of Colby, Allen of Greenwood, Milton of Hebron, Ill., and Mrs. Rudy Schoelzel of Colby, Wis. Also three brothers and three sisters - Adolph of Chilton, Edwin of Sheboygan, Herman of Cleveland, Mrs. Pauline Hake of Milwaukee, Mrs. Louis Eckert of Port Edwards and Mrs. Herman Klemm of Sheboygan. There are 30 grand children.

The deceased was a good Christian, a kind husband and father, and industrious and honest in all his undertakings. As he also was of a friendly disposition, he will be missed by many friends as well as by members of his family.

Out of town people at the funeral were Edwin Gutenberger, Mrs. Ida Klemm and Mr. and Mrs. Vilas Meves of Sheboygan, Herman Gutenberger of Haven, Mrs. Louis Eckert and sons, Alvin and Alfred, of Port Edwards, Mr. and Mrs. Allen Gutenberger, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bucholtz, Mrs. Henry Woepse, Mrs. Henry Horn and Mr. and Mrs. Gustave Horn of Greenwood, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Gosse of Longwood, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Woepse of Cleveland, Wis., Ewald Meves of Milwaukee, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Frane of Milan and Mr. and Mrs. John Wilson of Spencer, Wis.
