Ruggles, Ruth (27 AUG 1940)

A lovely wedding was solemnized a the Congregational Church Parsonage Tuesday, Aug. 27, 1940, when Ruth Ruggles, daughter of Arthur Ruggles, was united in marriage to Arthur Evenson, son of Bernard Evenson of Stanley, by Rev. W.P.D. Powe.

Miss Ruggles was attractively dressed in a gown of white silk crepe and wore a corsage of sweet peas. She also wore an amethyst set pendant once worn by her maternal grandmother. Her bridesmaid was her only sister, Doris, of Milwaukee, who wore a dress of dusty rose silk crepe and a corsage of sweet peas.

Preceding the ceremony Miss Margaret Marking sang, "O Promise Me" and after the service, "I Love You Truly."

The bride is a graduate of the Owen High School and of the La Crosse Teachers College and for the past two years has been prominent in the teaching profession within the county.

After the ceremony a reception was held for 30 guests in the Congregational Church Parlors.

The couple left for a trip through southern Wisconsin and hereafter will be at home on the groom’s farm near Stanley. The bride was dressed in a traveling dress of dusty rose when they departed on their trip.

Out of town guests were Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Evenson of Pardeeville; Mrs. Byron Monteer of Endeavor; Mr. and Mrs. James Evenson Vernak of Ettrick; Mr. and Mrs. Ivan DeSota and children, Betty and DuWayne of Unity; George Evenson of Stanley.
