Philip R. Cieslek

Philip R. Cieslek, 68, Kronenwetter, died Monday, Nov. 19, 2007, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital after a courageous battle with mesothelioma.

Phil was employed by Foremost Foods for 19 years. He later was employed by Weyerhaeuser for 19 years as an environmental engineer.

Survivors include his wife, Judith (Auberg) Cieslek, Kronenwetter; four children, Scott (Lanette) Cieslek, Combined Locks, Kurt (Amy) Cieslek, Weston, Kelly (Brian) Wonsil, Kronenwetter, and Melanie (special friend, Brian Parquette) Matis, Mosinee; four grandchildren; one brother, Robert (Faye) Cieslek, Marion, Iowa; three sisters, Irene (Randall) Ryll, Withee, Dorothy (Edwin) Zawadzki, Owen, and Suzanne (Gary) McHugh, Rozellville; and other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Mount Olive Church, Schofield. Burial will be at St. Paul Cemetery in Mosinee. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the church.

Brainard Funeral Home, Weston, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Philip R. Cieslek

Philip R. Cieslek, 68, of Kronenwetter died Monday, Nov. 19, 2007, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with mesothelioma.

Philip was born Dec. 14, 1938, in Owen, Wis., to the late John and Martha (Kujala) Cieslek. He married Judith Auberg on Oct. 10, 1959, at Saint John Lutheran Church, Withee, Wis.

Phil was employed by Foremost Foods for 19 years where he was awarded the prestigious WWOA-sponsored George F. Bernauer Memorial Award as "Operator of the Year" in 1969. He later was employed by Weyerhaeuser for 19 years as an environmental engineer and continued to be an active member of WWOA. Phil also served as a volunteer firefighter for the town of Kronenwetter for 19 years and was one of the original charter members, where he achieved the position of assistant chief. Phil also served as a town of Kronenwetter supervisor and continued on as trustee of the village of Kronenwetter. Phil also served as a Marathon County board supervisor.

Phil enjoyed bowling, golfing, horseshoes and collecting toy tractors. He also loved being outdoors and working on his property. His latest project was the construction of his new home. His most memorable times were spent with his family and friends.

Surviving relatives, besides his wife Judith, are four children, Scott (Lanette) Cieslek, Combined Locks, Kurt (Amy) Cieslek, Weston, Kelly (Brian) Wonsil, Kronenwetter, and Melanie (special friend, Brian Parquette) Matis, Mosinee; four grandchildren, Abbie Cieslek, Jordan Matis, Tori and Jacie Cieslek; one brother, Robert (Faye) Cieslek, Marion, Iowa; and three sisters, Irene (Randall) Ryll, Withee, Dorothy (Edwin) Zawadzki, Owen, and Suzanne (Gary) McHugh, Rozellville. One nephew, many nieces, and very close friends survive Phil.

Phil is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, John Jr., James and Jerome Cieslek; twin grandsons, Brad and Brent Cieslek; one nephew, Edwin Zawadzki Jr.; and mother- and father-in-law, Roy and Veryl Auberg.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, 2007, at Mount Olive Church, Schofield. Funeral services will follow the visitation. Burial will be at St. Paul Cemetery in Mosinee.
