Darlene was born May 16, 1941, in Unity to Frank and Margaret (Graebel) Pfeffer. She attended St. Mary's Catholic School and graduated from Colby, Wis. High School. Darlene and Glenn Herrmann were married April 10, 1964, in Pine City, Minn. She went to work as a teller for Colby State Bank, now known as Mid Wisconsin Bank, working in both the Colby and Unity branches. She retired in September 2000 after 41 years of service. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Chequamegon Bird Watching Club.
Darlene enjoyed traveling, cooking, baking, bird watching and polka music, but especially cherished the time she could spend with her husband, family and three grandsons. She was also a lover of cats. She will especially be remembered for her warm and caring ways, her great sense of humor and for the twinkle in her eye.
Darlene is lovingly survived by her husband of 41 years, Glenn Herrmann of Colby; her daughter, Margaret "Peggy" (The Rev. Daniel) Zimmerman of Loyal; her mother and best friend, Margaret Pfeffer of Unity; and three grandsons, Luke, Ben and Zach Zimmerman of Loyal.
She was preceded in death by her father, Frank Pfeffer in April 1994.
Memorials may be given to Saint Joseph's Hospital for cancer research or in Darlene's name for a memorial to be established at a later date.
THE BROKEN CHAIN
We little knew that morning, that God
Was going to call your name.
In life we loved you dearly, In death we do the same.
It broke our hearts to lose you,
You did not go alone; For part of us went with you,
The day God called you home.
You left us peaceful memories,
Your love is still our guide;
And though we cannot see you,
You are always at our side.
Our family chain is broken,
And nothing seems the same;
But as God calls us one by one,
The chain will link again.
