Smith, John Elander (6 May 1861 - Nov. 1942)

Funeral services for John Elander Smith, age 81, who died at Chicago, Ill., were held Thursday afternoon at 1:30 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. A. Rilling. Rev. George E. Griffiths officiated and internment was made in the Abbotsford cemetery. Pall bearers were Dr. J. A. Rilling, M. C. Thompson and George and Elmer Greaser. Those in charge of the flowers were Mrs. C. W. Hoffman, Mrs. Walter Fults and Mrs. L. K. Neitzel.

The deceased was born in Syracuse, N.Y., on May 6th, 1861, and was married to Miss Lena Caroline Berger at Cincinnati, Ohio, in October, 1885. About four years ago Mr. Smith suffered a stroke and had been in failing health since.

He is survived by his widow and an only child, Mrs. Mae Rilling. There are also two grand daughters, Miss Winnifred Rilling of Wausau and Miss Althea Rilling of Abbotsford, Wis.
