Stock, August (2 May 1858 - 10 July 1943)

August Stock died at his home in Colby at the age of 85 years Saturday morning at 2:40 o’clock, following several years’ illness, old age complications being the cause of his death. Funeral services were held at the Zion Ev. Lutheran church Tuesday afternoon, Rev. O. Hoffmann officiating, and internment was made in the Colby cemetery. Pall bearers were Otto Stock and Edward Stock, two sons, Hugo Frome and Henry Reeves, son in laws, and Jac. Katte and Milford Frome, grand sons.

Mr. Stock was born on May 2nd, 1858, in Pommerania, Germany, thus reaching the age of 85 years, two months and eight days. He came to the United States in 1881 and lived in Waukesha county a few years and then came to Colby, Wis. At the age of 32 he bought a farm north of the city where he lived until 27 years ago when he retired and moved to the city of Colby, Wis. He was married to Ottelia Kluve at Colby, Wis., on May 8th, 1888. He is numbered among the early settlers of this community.

Surviving are his widow, three daughters and two sons - Mrs. Hugo Frome and Mrs. Henry Reeves of Colby, Mrs. Ella Murray of Eau Claire, Otto Stock of Loyal and Edward Stock of Abbotsford, Wis. Also two brothers, Henry and Herman Stock of Waukesha, one sister, Mrs. August Schultz of Lannon, seven grand children and eight great grand children.

The deceased was of a hospitable and congenial disposition, a good Christian and an indulgent husband and father. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Out of town people here for the funeral were Mrs. August Schulz of Lannon, Wis., Herman Stock of Waukesha, Wis., Mr. and Mrs. Jac Katte and family of Sheboygan, Wis., Milford Frome of Clinton, Oklahoma, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Schroeder of Loyal, Mrs. Frieda Olson and Eugene, Archie and Eunice Kluve of Curtiss, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Keller and son of Abbotsford, Mr. and Mrs. August Zubke, Mrs. Herman Zubke and Mrs. Ed Ewan of Athens, Mrs. Al Lefstad, Mrs. Oscar Solie and Mrs. Hans Johnson of Eau Claire.
