Unity, Wis. - Nov. 4, 1943
George S. Cook, state traffic officer, drove to Madison Monday to attend a two-day conference of traffic officers called by the motor vehicle department.
Sam Stark spent the week-end with relatives in Minneapolis.
Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Tennis visited relatives in Abbotsford Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Kademan of Colby were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Mews Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Mandel and Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Wiedenhoeft of Unity, Wis., and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Mildebrand of Medford were in Minocqua Friday.
Miss Juliane Mandel spent the week-end at Colby with her grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ernst Mandel.
The farm home of Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Flink in the town of Unity was damaged by smoke and fire to the amount of several hundred dollars last Wednesday evening. Just how the fire began is not known, but it was supposed that a lamp left burning low on the kitchen table must have exploded and caught the top of the table. Mr. and Mrs. Flink were in the village until near midnight and on their return found the house lighted and upon investigation found that a large hole had been burned through the floor, that the table and two kitchen chairs had been burned. The greatest damage was caused by smoke.
A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Donald Powers of the town of Colby on Tuesday, October 26th.
Pvt. Charles Van Slett, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Van Slett, arrived home after doing a two-year stretch for Uncle Sam in the Panama Canal zone.
Miss Louise Luchterhand is substituting as a teacher in a southern Wisconsin school for two weeks for a friend.
Mrs. Fred Niggeman of Rib Lake was a recent guest at the Paul Mais home.
Sam Stark was injured last week while getting his new coach on its foundation and at the clinic it was found he had cracked a couple of ribs.
A daughter was born to Sgt. and Mrs. Stewart Salter at Denver, Colo., October 22, according to Mr. and Mrs. Earl Salter, grand parents of the little girl.
