Tennis, Joseph A. (12 Sept. 1867 - 26 Feb. 1944)

Joseph A. Tennis died at his home four miles west of Unity at 8:40 A.M. Saturday at the age of 76 years after an illness of several months. He had been at his farm home since the latter part of December when he returned from St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, where he had received medical treatments for three weeks.

Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at St. Mary’s Catholic church in Colby, Rev. L. J. Lang officiating, and internment was made in the Colby cemetery. Pall bearers were Ed Feit, Tony Will, Ed Schumacher, Frank Will, Herb Kanter and Joe Pech. Those in charge of the flowers were Joane Tennis and Ailene Tennis.

The deceased was born at Grand Rapids, Mich., on Sept. 12, 1867, and moved to the Unity community from Glencoe, Ill. He was married to Miss Rose Harry at Colby on June 8th, 1897. They settled on their farm west of Unity about 40 years ago.

Mr. Tennis is survived by his wife, three sons and one daughter - Melvin of Unity, Sylvester on a farm near Unity, Bernard on the home farm, and Mrs. Irene Pohl of Milwaukee. Also eight grand children. One child, two brothers and three sisters preceded him in death.
