Hi Liz. My maiden name is Sharratt and I and my family reside in Wigan which isn't too far from Blackburn. I heard the story of Sharratt being a Jewish name from a non family member of the same name over 25 years ago. I too have what you would class traditional jewish looks, as does my father and many relatives. Curiously when my parents visited Israel a number of years ago they were questioned at the border about their name and why they were visiting, they were singled out from a large number of people. When they explained they were on vacation they were allowed to go on their way but that made me wonder if there was some truth in the story.
