Woman celebrates 100 birthday

Eva Wolfe a favorite at Wells Nature View

By Jeni Lewis - Marshfield News-Herald

With a smile on her face, Eva Wolfe returned hugs from fellow residents and looked forward to her cake.

Wolfe has a reason for smiling. She turned 100 on Friday, and she loves to celebrate.

She's an active participant in events at Wells Nature View on Apple Avenue, where she lives, playing ring toss and making friends with other residents.

"You be good now," Wolfe said to a friend after receiving a birthday hug at lunchtime Friday.

"No, you be good," the friend replied.

"I'm always good," Wolfe said.

Wolfe's smile and happy-go-lucky personality make her a favorite at the center.

"We love her, she's so sweet," said Patti Rehbein, administrative assistant.

Wolfe isn't the only family member to push the boundaries of age, said her oldest child, Darlene Langfeldt of Loyal. Her two sisters reached 98 and 99, and the children of the family share in Wolfe's good health.

Born in the town of Beaver as a Gretzner, Wolfe attended college in Eau Claire and taught in a one-room schoolhouse in Greenwood for several years, Langfeldt said.

Then she married Arthur Wolfe, and they farmed northeast of Loyal for many years. The farm was sold to their second child, Dale, in the 1960s, and the couple moved to Spencer, Wis. Arthur died in 1970.

"She was always busy, knitting, crocheting, sewing. She bowled," Langfeldt said.

Today the rest of the family will come to celebrate Wolfe's birthday, including her youngest daughter, Marilyn Rouna of De Forest.

Wolfe has nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Wolfe said she was looking forward to all the cake and ice cream. She agreed with Langfeldt that she'd have two pieces of cake if they'd let her.
