Sitter, Richard John (3 Jan. 1932 - 4 March 2006)

Richard J. Sitter

Age 74. Of Thorp, formerly of Milwaukee, died peacefully under hospice care at Clairemount Nursing Home, in Eau Claire, on Saturday, March 4, 2006, following a lengthy illness.

Richard John Sitter was born on January 3, 1932 to Alphonse and Margaret (Browning) Sitter. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1950 until 1954 during the Korean Conflict. Richard was married 47 years to his loving wife, Lorraine (Kubera) Sitter. Richard had varied work experiences beginning with Cutler Hammer in Milwaukee, Sunburst Youth Homes, Clark County Court House and Social Services, and Nelson Muffler, all in Neillsville, Wis. He also worked at Industrial Fabricators and Rochester Silo in Thorp. He finished his working career as a foster parent for teens in Clark and Manitowoc Counties.

He is survived by his wife, Lorraine, of Thorp; one daughter, Eileen Sitter of Eau Claire; two sons, Michael (Lisa) Sitter of Cottage Grove, MN and Ronald (Patrice) Sitter of Eagan, MN; nine grandchildren, Davina (Mike) Ronn of Georgia, Gretchen (Nick) Bobo of Florida, Tamara Gale (Branch Ousley) of Ohio, Renee Sitter (Kevin Booth) of Minnesota, Olivia Sitter, Phillip Sitter and Tyler Sitter, all of Minnesota, Jenny and Amber Drost of Wisconsin; six great-grandchildren, two brothers, Thomas (Lois) Sitter of Madison, Gerald (Virginia) Sitter of Milwaukee and one sister Mary Alice (Don) Carpentier of Milwaukee; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and baby brother David.

Richard was a 34 year active member of the Thorp American Legion Cecil Tormey Post #118, past member of the V.F.W., Knights of Columbus, AARP and served as an election official. Richard was a strong supporter of and involved with The High Ground bike trips.

Richard was an avid reader and student of human nature, which probably accounted for his sense of humor, which he maintained up to the end. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golf and the outdoors with family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the American Cancer, Heart or Lung Associations.

No services will be held.

Thorp Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
