SPENCER -- Eugene Richard Zuege, 75, Spencer, died at 2:55 p.m. Sunday, March 12, 2006, at The Colonial House Nursing & Rehabilitative Center in Colby due to complications from multiple strokes.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 15, 2006, at Community Funeral Home in Spencer, Wis. Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Lutheran Cemetery in Loyal.
He was born Aug. 30, 1930, in the town of Beaver to Frank Martin and Elsie (Johnson) Zuege. He grew up on the family farm in Loyal. A 1948 graduate of Loyal High School, he served with the U.S. Army from Jan. 26, 1952, until Dec. 23, 1953, at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri with the 813th EAB, then at Elmendorf AFB Unit in Alaska, where he was an E-4 Corporal and operated and serviced trucks up to 15 tons. In 1954, he returned to Loyal to work on the family farm until 1970. Upon moving to Spencer, he was employed at Land O'Lakes for 20 years, retiring in 1990.
He is survived by his longtime friend and companion, Beatrice Hayton of Spencer; her daughter, Judith Ann Hayton; her granddaughters, Davette Lynne Hrabak and Lynne Anne Bohn, all of Phillips; his brother, James (Terri) Zuege of Spencer; nieces Unsie Webster, Irene Pueschner and Caroline Oestreich; and nephew, Ryan Zuege.
