MARCUS MONTCALM Post, Freeman House, Black River Falls, Wisconsin was born in Huron Co., Ohio, Oct. 14. 1845. Came to Black River Falls in 1845, and went to work on the river, driving logs for McMullan. Remained with him one Winter, then went to work in the woods until 1879, when he went teaming for Mr. Spaulding. and on April 1, 1879, took charge of the hotel where he now is. He enlisted in Co. B, 2d Wis. C. V. in 1864, at La Crosse. Mr. Post was married to Fannie Maud Freeman, April 20, 1880. She was born in Canada, Nov. 17, 1855, and is a daughter of Samuel Freeman, the former proprietor of the Freeman House.
*In 1900, the Posts live on Water St., Black River Falls, Wisconsin where they ran a hotel.
**Marcus Montcalm Post died in Black River Falls, Wisconsin, 4 Jun 1905 of kidney disease and he and his wife, Frances "Fannie" Maud Freeman Post (1854 - 1918), are both buried there in the Riverside Cemetery. Fannie was the daughter of Samuel and Ann English Freeman. Lucille Post (1845 - 1905), the daughter of Marcus and Fannie who died at the age of three is also buried in the same plot.
