Winters, Marvin (1857? - 8 Aug. 1944)
Marvin Winters, 87, a pioneer resident of the town of Spencer, ended his life early Tuesday afternoon in the yard at his home by shooting himself in the head with a .16 gauge shotgun, it was said today by Dr. A. W. Burek, Marathon county coroner, following an investigation shortly after the shooting.
The discovery of the body, it was said by Dr. Burek, was made by John Spencer, a county highway patrolman, shortly after 1 o’clock.
It was said by the coroner that Winters, who lived at the farm home of his son, Oscar Winters, had broken a limb from a tree in the front yard of the Winters home and used it to push the trigger. Winters, according to the coroner, was practically decapitated.
No reason was advanced for the suicide and Winters apparently left no note to indicate his reason.
Survivors include three sons, Oscar Winters, Charles Winters, Birney, Mont., and Byron Winters, Wausau; two daughters, Mrs. William Podolak of Des Moines, Iowa, and Mrs. Wm. Rhoads, Portland, Ore.; 11 grand children, and 15 great grand children. His wife, whom he married December 15, 1878, in the town of Sherman, Clark county, died last Oct. 1.
