Melvin, James W. (22 May 1867 - 17 Nov. 1944)
Funeral services for James W. Melvin, age 77, of route 1, Abbotsford, were held at 10 o’clock A.M., at St, Bernard’s Catholic church at Abbotsford, Rev. Francis J. Brockman officiating at the requiem high mass. Mr. Melvin died Friday, Nov. 17th, at St. Mary’s hospital at Wausau, a stroke being the cause of his death.
The deceased was born on May 22, 1867, in Jackson county, town of Irving, and was married to Lydia Whitney on June 1st, 1904, at St. Joseph’s Catholic church in the town of Irving. They lived on a farm in Irving township until 1924 when they moved to Northern Clark county. In 1929, they moved onto their present farm in the town of Holton, Marathon county. Mr. Melvin was a member of the Holy Name Society.
Mr. Melvin is survived by his wife and seven children, Mrs. Harley (Loretta) German of Curtiss, Mrs. Henry (Margaret) Weideman of Abbotsford, Mrs. George (Elizabeth) Hempfner of Dorchester, Francis Melvin, Mrs. Rolland (Genevieve) Gasch and Archie Melvin, all of Abbotsford, and Staff Sgt. William Melvin, somewhere in France. One daughter died in 1920. Also surviving are a sister, Mrs. Freeman Metcalf of Hayward, a brother, Martin Melvin of Black River Falls and eleven grand children. Four brothers and three sisters preceded him in death.
