Catlin, Perl (1894 - 26 Dec. 1944)
Perl Catlin of Loyal died at 3:05 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 26, as the result of injuries suffered when the car he was driving crashed into a pile of sand on the curve at Coles Corner, seven miles east of Loyal on highway 98, early Saturday morning.
Injured about the head and face in the accident was a passenger in the car, Harold Cook, also of Loyal. An operation to remove an eye was performed Wednesday.
Mr. Catlin, who received a broken leg and severe cuts and bruises about the head and face, never regained complete consciousness. Less than 4 ½ months before that his son, Eldon, was seriously injured in a crash east of Loyal. Eldon, however, has now recovered from his injuries received when a car in which he and Pvt. Robert Linderkugel were riding smashed into the railing of the bridge 2 ½ miles east of Loyal.
The Catlin car was completely demolished by the impact with the sand pile. The men were traveling east when the accident occurred.
Funeral services for Mr. Catlin will be held in the Methodist church at Loyal at 2 p.m. The body will lie in state at the Ohlrogge funeral home until that time.
