Betzold, Casper (16 AUG 1869 - 24 JUL 1940)

Casper Betzold, a resident of the Town of Reseburg (Clark Co., Wis.) for nearly half a century, passed away Wednesday evening, July 24th, 1940, at his home, after a lingering illness of over four years. He had reached the age of 70 years, 11 months and 8 days.

Mr. Betzold was born in Germany on Aug. 16, 1869 and came to America in the year 1881. He lived in Calumet Co., Wis., for ten years before moving to Thorp and began farming with his two brothers on a tract of land three and one-half miles south of the village, where he resided until death.

He was a quiet man and a true friend and neighbor. At all times, under all circumstances, he walked in the well beaten path of righteousness and when fully conscious that he was nearing the last on earth, he appeared to be fully impressed with the idea that at the end of time eternity began, and that the bright faith which sustained him during those trying hours of suffering would only grow brighter as he journeyed toward the infinite, and the final glooms of death be dispelled by the radiance of God’s love.

Surviving are his two brothers, John, at home and Ben, now a patient at the Wales Sanitorium near Milwaukee.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. F.H. Sprengler, pastor of the Ev. Lutheran Church, at the P.N.A. Hall at ten o’clock Saturday morning, and interment took place in the Reseburg Cemetery. Pallbearers were Mike Heiser, George Telford, Wm. Keller, John Swanenbeurg, Otto Beckman and Robert Broeren.
