LIBERAL, Kan. -- Alvin Ervin Gauerke, 83, of Liberal, Kansas, formerly of Dorchester, died Tuesday, March 14, 2006, at Southwst Medical Center in Liberal.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul United Methodist Church Burial will be in Restlawn Cemetery in Liberal.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, both at the Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home.

He was born May 17, 1922, in Dorchester to Erwin August and Martha Anna (Becker) Gauerke. He married Vivian Genevieve Anderson on March 25, 1942, in Dorchester, Wis. She died Oct. 14, 1993. He had been a 40-year resident of Liberal and retired as a truck driver for Yellow Freight. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include his son, Gerald A. (Beverly) Gauerke of Turpin, Okla.; daughter, Sharon M. Dimitt of Johnson, Kan.; five grandchidren, 14 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
