Ann M. Nelson, 92, of Eau Claire, died Tuesday, March 14, 2006, at Our House Service Living-Memory Care in Chippewa Falls.
She was born Nov. 24, 1913, to Magnus and Marie (Pedersen) Hauschildt in Milwaukee.
While she was still a young girl, her family moved to Withee to farm. Ann graduated from Withee High School with the class of 1932 and went to business school in Eau Claire for a year.
She married Theodore H. Nelson Oct. 19, 1940, in Eau Claire. They lived in Eau Claire, Amery and Duluth, Minn. until moving to Red Oak, Iowa, in 1951. There, they owned and operated Nelson Funeral Home. After the death of her husband in 1965, Ann continued to operate the funeral home until 1975. She then opened the "Golden Thimble" Yarn and Craft Shop in Red Oak. Three years later, she moved back to Eau Claire.
She was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church in Eau Claire. In Red Oak, she had been a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Order of the Eastern Star, Odd Fellows, Ladies’ Aid and Altrusa International. Ann was an avid quilter and a member of Embroiderers’ Guild of America.
Survivors include her two daughters, Karen (Stephen) Schrage of Eau Claire and Christina (Dr. William) Nicolaus of Mill Creek, Wash.; son, Peter Nelson of Reno, Nev.; three granddaughters, Kirsten, Laura and Anna Schrage; grandson, Justin Boyd; and a brother-in-law, Peter Peissig of Madison.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore, in 1965; a brother, Alfred Hauschildt; and a sister, Esther Peissig.
Memorial services will be held in May at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Red Oak, Iowa. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Red Oak.
