Curtiss, Wis. - July 5, 1945

Mrs. John Hoge will be hostess to the Ladies’ Aid of the St. Paul’s Lutheran church on Thursday, July 12th.

Supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Peterson on Sunday were Prof. and Mrs. V. E. Thompson of Stevens Point, Mr. and Mrs. Tovio Kallio and Mr. and Mrs. Grant Herrick.

Mr. and Mrs. Walter Bahn of Lake Geneva, former residents of Green Grove, are spending the week with the latter’s sister, Mrs. Herbert Meyers, and family and her parents at Colby, Wis.

Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Zuelke and daughter are spending their vacation with the latter’s mother, Mrs. Frank Kraut. Miss Marie Kraut and Beverly Kraut, who spent the past week at Madison, returned home with them.

Mrs. Albert Phillips was hostess to the Midway Card Club on Tuesday afternoon.

Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Neitzel of St. John, Mich., are visiting the latter’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Gilbertson, this week.

Wm. Fahrenbach sold his tavern this week to Henry Bublitz of Milwaukee. Bublitz lived here several years ago.

Sunday dinner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Machlett were Mr. and Mrs. Ben Machlett of Eau Claire, Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Bejin and son of Chippewa Falls, and Mrs. Leona Smith and son, Chicago.

Mrs. Frank Lupient and daughter, Marion, of Wausau spent the week end at their farm home here.

Mrs. Fritz Laabs and infant daughter returned home from the Marshfield, Wisconsin Hospital on Saturday.

Mrs. Ethel Brown and son, Bobby, left last week for New Jersey where they will spend the summer.

Mr. and Mrs. Albert Smith returned on Friday evening from Fond du Lac where they had attended the funeral of a relative.

Mrs. Willard Geary was hostess to two tables of bridge on Saturday afternoon. High scores were held by Miss Clara Thompson and Mrs. Harold Laabs.

Seaman 1st class Norbert Buss, son of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Buss, arrived home on Friday on a leave of 20 days. He entered the Navy in October, 1943, and has served 13 months overseas. He took part in five combat missions, the last one at Okinawa.

Miss Myrtle Hoff returned home Monday evening from several days visit with friends at Amherst and Nelsonville.

Betty Bart of Milwaukee came home on Tuesday to visit her grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Pohl.

Several friends of the Emil Erickson family at Dorchester drove over and surprised them at a farewell party on Saturday evening. Refreshments were served and the group presented them with a gift. Mr. Erickson recently sold his hardware business and will leave this week for Westby where they will make their home.

The many friends here of Mrs. Lavonne Flint will be pleased to know that her husband, Lt. Eugene Flint, who was taken prisoner of war in Germany in Feb. 1944, was liberated since V-day and is now at his home in South Dakota. Mrs. Flint spent several months here last year with her mother, Mrs. Martha Harmel.

Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Larson of Marshfield spent several days with the latter’s brother and sister in law, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Fricke. They all spent Monday fishing at Harpers Lake.
