Unity, Wis. - June 17, 1885
Ice cold soda water and ginger ale, at Miller’s Drug Store.
Mrs. W. P. Miller is visiting a couple of weeks with her parents and friends at Neillsville, Wisconsin and Black River Falls.
There was a large attendance at the skating rink, last Tuesday, many from Colby were down and enjoyed themselves on wheels.
J. A. Pettet is away on a fishing expedition, to Spirit Lake, with Dr. Nedry of Dorchester, Wis. May he bring home a few good messes of fish.
Rob Rosenfeld drove to Wausau on business, last Friday, and returned home Monday night, Rob must have had a good time to stay away from home so long.
Nelson & Berg, proprietors of the Flood House will give a 4th of July Dance in Flood’s Hall, on the 3rd of July, evening. Tickets $1.50 including supper, a good time is expected.
Preparations for celebrating the Fourth of July will be made this week. Unity is not going to be left out for a good time on the 4th. There will be a lot of fire crackers and fire works to make things loud.
Otto Derwaldt returned home, Monday evening, from the town of York, where he and his brother are in business, and are doing well. Otto brought two cases of eggs back with him, so, of course, eggs will be cheaper in Unity for awhile.
Unity, Wis. High School will close this week. We here give the program of exercises for Friday evening, June 19th, 1885 to be held at the M. E. Church, at 8 P.M. sharp:
Solo - "Sweet Chiming Bells" - Libbie Stewart.
Declamation - "Little Tim" - Nettie BOwen, Wis.
Instrumental Music - Mary Hall.
Essay - "True Greatness" - Etta Darling.
Declamation - "The Last Recitation" - Elmer Healy.
Hymn and Recitation - "Jesus, Lover of my Soul" - Grace Peterson.
Declamation - "Observations of the Rev. Gabe Tucker" - Jesse Toothaker.
Declamation - "Mama’s Help" - Jessie Bickmore.
Dialogue - "The Picnic" - Jessie Britton, Fannie Burton, Nellie VanHoosear, Grant McCurdy, Phillip Latham, Thos. Caswell.
Declamation - "The Gambler’s Wife" - Lillie Healy.
