Schumacher, Kenneth (1924? - 28 Feb. 1945)

Mrs. Rita Schumacher of Colby was notified by the War Department last Thursday that her husband, Corporal Kenneth Schumacher, age 21, was killed in action in the European theatre of war on Feb. 28th.

Cpl. Schumacher, who was inducted into service July 7, 1943, had been overseas since November, 1944. He first was stationed in England and shortly after went to France, serving with the 10th Armored Infantry Division.

For the first 10 months after he entered service, Cpl. Schumacher took anti-aircraft training at Camp Haan, Calif., and then was transferred to the infantry, receiving training at Camp Carson, Colo., Fort Jackson, S.C., and Fort George, G. Meade. Md.

Surviving besides his wife, whom he married July 14th, 1943, are their son, David, who lives with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elroy Gutenberger, Colby; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Nick Schumacher, Dorchester; three sisters, Mrs. Arman Underwood and Celine and Janet Schumacher, Dorchester; and two brothers, Donald and Norbert Schumacher, also of Dorchester, Wis.

A Memorial Requiem High Mass will be read Saturday morning, Mar. 24th, at 9:30 o’clock at St. Mary’s Catholic church in Colby, the Rev. Francis J. Bienkowski officiating.
