Powers, M. J. (1843? - 14 Mar. 1891)

A distressing accident occurred at Marshfield last Friday evening, as the north bound passenger train pulled out of the station. M. J. Powers of Mannville attempted to board the train, but owing to the large number of people on the platform, was prevented from doing so, and as the train approached the north end of the platform, he stumbled and fell under the moving wheels, and was so severely injured that he died from the effects, at nine o’clock Saturday morning. Doctors Budge, Lathrop and Heywood performed all the necessary operations but the injuries were so severe that he failed to rally from the shock.

M. J. Powers was born at New York forty-eight years ago and came to this state in 1862, and located at Beaver Dam where he was employed as a R.R. conductor, soon after he entered the employ of Henry Sherry, the Neenah lumberman, and continued to work for him up to about two years ago, when he resigned to enter business at Marshfield. A wife and four children survive him. The funeral occurred Tuesday at the Catholic church, at Marshfield, and the remains were followed to their resting place by a large number of the friends and associates of the deceased.
