Asselin, Jerry (11 JUL 1879 - 15 OCT 1940)

Rev. Jas. Irish conducted funeral services at the Methodist Church here at two o’clock last Thursday afternoon for Jerry Asselin, who passed away of carcinoma of the stomach, at Grandview Hospital, La Crosse, Wis., on Oct. 15th, 1940, after an illness of several months. The deceased was born at La Crosse on July 11, 1879 and had reached the age of 61 years, 3 months and 4 days. When still a small boy he moved with his parents to a farm in the town of Reseburg (Clark Co., Wis.), where he remained until he came to Thorp about twenty years ago and started in the garage business. For the past five years he was engaged in traveling as a confectioner salesman.

On April 6, 1905 he was married to Nettie Hayes, who with one daughter, Eunice (Mrs. Reno Goetsch) of Wausau, are elft to mourn. Also surviving are his mother, Mrs. Delia Asselin; four brothers, Gilbert, Layton, and Edward of Thorp, and Albert of Scottsbluff, Neb.; one sister, Mrs. Robert Telford of Reseburg.

He was laid to rest in the east Thorp Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Carl Peterson, Robert Telford, Gilbert, Layton, Edward and Albert Asselin.

Out of town relatives and friends here to attend the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Luedtke, Mrs. Minnie Luedtke, Mrs. Anna Hayes and daughter Anna, of Byron; Mrs. Walter Klein, Walter Talisman and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Grandman of Lomira.; Mr. and Mrs. Anton Lauer and Mr. and Mrs. Otto Berg of Chippewa Falls; Carl Peterson and son Donald, and Mr. and Mrs. Martin Johnson and son Craig of St. Paul; Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Jolivette, Mr. and Mrs. Neil Jolivette and Mrs. Henry Jolivette, of La Crosse; Albert Asselin of Scottsbluff, neb.; Mr. and Mrs. August Goetsch and Mr. and Mrs. Reno Goetsch of Wausau.
