Neillsville man dies in fall from roof
A Neillsville man has died as a result of injuries received in an apparent fall from the roof of his home late Sunday afternoon.
Kevin Opelt, 52, is believed to have been upon a ladder and cleaning the rain gutters on the roof of his house located on Grand Avenue at about 4 p.m. when he evidently fell to the ground.
According to Neillsville Police Chief Brad Lindner, there were no eye-witnesses to the accident. "He was in the back (of the house) and the kids were in front," he said, of Opelt’s children raking leaves in the front yard at the time.
After someone heard the ladder fall, Opelt was found lying on the ground. He did not have a pulse and was not breathing, Lindner said. A Neillsville Police officer who came on the scene shortly was able to restore some vital signs. Neighbors arrived to assist, as well.
Opelt was taken by ambulance to Memorial Medical Center in Neillsville and then transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield where he was pronounced dead, said Lindner.
