(The Stevens Point Journal)
A wedding of interest in Stevens Point was performed in Los Angeles, California, Thursday morning, August 29, when Miss Velma Scribner, daughter of Mrs. William Scribner, 114 Wyatt avenue and the late Mr. Scribner, became the bride of Lawrence J. Harvey of Los Angeles, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John J. Harvey of Meriden, Connecticut. The service was read at 8 o’clock in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church by Rev, Joseph J. Truxaw. Flowers decorated the altar. The attendants were Mrs. Robert J. Sheaffer of North Carolina and Edward Naski of New Hampshire.
The wedding gown worn by the bride was of special significance in the Scribner family. It was a hand made peasant frock that had been imported from Paris as the wedding gown of the bride’s sister, Alice, an airplane hostess, who was killed in an airplane crash in 1933 shortly before her wedding was to have taken place. Of eggshell color, the bodice was smocked at the neckline, wrists and waist and was trimmed with self embroidery on the sleeves and front, and the skirt was entirely plaited in tiny plaits. With it the bride wore a tiny hat of stephanotis blossoms.
Her matron of honor was attired in a royal blue velvet gown with sequins on the sleeves, and wore a hat to match. She had a corsage of Talisman roses.
After the ceremony a breakfast was served at the Wilshire hotel to members of the bridal party. In the evening a reception for 60 guests was held at the Berkshire hotel.
Mr. and Mrs. Harvey are at home at 433 Union Drive, Los Angeles, Mr. Harvey is employed with the Ridgeway Audit company. His bride, a graduate of the Stevens Point High school and Central State Teachers college, was especially active in musical circles in Stevens Point. She was a member of Tau Gamma Beta sorority and Alpha Kappa Rho, honorary music fraternity, while at college. She has been teaching and directing the band at the Loyal High School.
Mr. Harvey recently accepted a position with the Lockheed Aircraft Corporation.
