Carl Wegner, age 92, of Neillsville, Wisconsin, died December 22, 2007 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, WI.

Carl Robert Wegner was born in Neillsville on December 19, 1915 the son of Ben and Clara (Beyer) Wegner. He started his work career at a very young age as the water-boy for C. C. Sniteman. He later worked for the Sniteman Drug Store from 1931-1932, and graduated from Neillsville High School in 1933. In 1937, he moved to Mason City, Iowa where he was manager of the A & W Drive In. He attended the Minnesota School of Aviation from 1940-1941 and went on to work as a Riveter for Consolidated Aircraft of San Diego, CA. Carl then joined the Army-Air-Corps and served in the Pacific Theatre during World War II.

In 1946, he worked as a clerk for the Veteran’s Administration in Downey, IL. In 1947, Carl moved back to Neillsville and along with Kenneth Olson purchased the Model Steam Laundry. In 1970, he bought Kenneth out and operated the business with his family until the time of his death. Carl was united in marriage to Bernita Wasserburger on October 25, 1952 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Neillsville.

Carl was a member of the Neillsville Rotary, VFW Post 2241 and also St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He loved playing baseball, basketball and football and excelled at them as an athlete in High School. He remained active in league teams and coaching local teams. He was also an avid Green Bay Packer fan and loved hunting, fishing and bowling.

He is survived by his wife, Bernita, of Neillsville; four sons, Chuck (Cheri) Wegner, of Neillsville; Rick (Tammy) Wegner, of Marshfield; Scott Wegner, of Schofield; and Thomas Wegner, of Neillsville; and two grandchildren, James and Eric Wegner.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Alfred Wegner; and sisters, Agnes Meinholdt, Alma Peterson, Dorothy Brickheimer and Velda Thur.

Funeral services for Carl were held Thursday, December 27, 2007 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Neillsville. The Very Reverend Woodrow H. Pace officiated. Providing music was Ronald Resong, organist and St. Mary’s Choir. Burial ws i8n St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, with Military Rites accorded by Neillsville Veterans Council.

Serving as casket bearers for Carl were: Lowell Gesche, Tom Wavrunek, Thom Thur, Bruce Langreck, Bernie Langreck and Milt DeLonay.

Bob was a devoted husband and loving father and grandfather and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

The Gesche Funeral Home of Neillsville assisted Carl’s family with arrangements.
