Oliver Lawrence Austin

Oliver Lawrence "Ollie" Austin, 95, Sarasota, died Jan. 3, 2007. He was born June 4, 1911, in Jersey City, N.J., and came to Sarasota in 1978.

He retired in 1966 from Curtiss-Wright Aerospace in New Jersey. He was past president of the Gulf Coast Banjo Society and a member of Sahib Shrine Banjo Band and Masonic Lodge 147, all in Sarasota.

Survivors include his wife of 16 years, Ann; a daughter, Francine Gnerre of Sarasota; a sister, Dorothy Byrne of Neillsville, Wis.; a brother, Gene of Boynton Beach; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Fellowship Hall of Bahia Vista Mennonite Church. Inurnment will be private. Packer Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Memorial donations may be made to Shriner's Hospital for Children, 12502 N. Pine Drive, Tampa, FL 33612-9499; or to TideWell Hospice and Palliative Care, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238.

*Note - Oliver’s sister lives in Neillsville, Wis.
