Bentzler, Lorraine R. (2 March 1933 – 20 May 2024)

Lorraine R. Griesbach-Bentzler, 91, Marshfield, passed away on Monday, May 20, 2024, at Clark County Rehabilitation and Living Center in Owen.


Lorraine was born on March 2, 1933, in Town of Cassel, Marathon County to Joseph and Anna (Jagodzinski) Knetter. She married Robert Griesbach in 1952. He passed away in 1965. She later married Harold “Gar” Bentzler in 1983. He passed away in 2003.
Lorraine was employed at Weyerhauser in Marshfield for 27 years before retiring in 1995. She also volunteered at Eagles, American Legion, and in the kitchen at the St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield. Lorraine enjoyed picking strawberries and giving them away to family and friends, wintering in Arizona with Gar, playing sheepshead and bingo, listening to polka music, driving her friends around, and spending time with her grandchildren. She also loved baking lemon poppy seed and banana bread and sharing it with her family.
She is survived by her children, Michael (Sally) Griesbach of Chili, Richard (Shelly) Griesbach of Marshfield, Linda Cox of Marshfield, Donna Griesbach of Loyal, Debra (Dan) Koeune of Arkdale, James (Dawn) Griesbach of Marshfield, stepchildren, Patti (Jerry) Sowls of Oshkosh and Harry (Lori) Bentzler of Sheldon, step son-in-law, John Trunkel of Willard, and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, step grandchildren, and step great grandchildren. She is further survived by her sisters, Gladys Strasser and Violet (Earl) Streveler, and sister in law, Marie Knetter.


She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Robert and Harold, stepdaughter, Carol Trunkel, step grandson, Jestin Koeune, and siblings, Joseph Jr., Stanley, Melvin, Marvin, Paul, and Arlene Knetter.


Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 31, 2024, at Rembs Funeral Home, Marshfield, with visitation from 9:00 until the time of service. Deacon Ray Draeger will officiate. A celebration of life will follow at Rembs Celebration Center and burial will take place at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Marshfield.


The family would like to extend a special thanks to Marshfield Area Respite Care, Clark County Rehab and Living Center, and Heartland Hospice.

Brown, Karen Kay (11 October 1951 – 18 May 2024)

Karen Kay Brown, age 72, Unity, passed peacefully into eternal life on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at the Colby Senior Care with support of St. Croix Hospice Services surrounded by her family.

Karen was born October 11, 1951, in Curtiss, the daughter of Alfred and Esther (Pudlas) Thompson. She graduated from Abbotsford High School in 1969, and went on to the UW-Stevens Point where she graduated with a degree in art. On May 29, 1976, she married Steve Brown at St. Paul Church in Curtiss, and in 1980, they moved to the house they built in rural Unity, where they raised their family.

Karen enjoyed sharing in the lives of her children, grandchildren and friends. Some pastimes she enjoyed were baking, gardening, reading, cross-stitch and of course, eating chocolate! She was very creative, spending many years painting crafts and perfecting the Scandinavian art of rosemaling. In 2019, she got to take the trip of a lifetime to Norway.

Karen loved children and worked at Zion Preschool in Colby for 5 years, Unity Elementary for 7 years, and Colby High School for 16 years, where she formed many lifelong friendships and kept the staff well fed with her homemade treats. She retired in 2017. She was a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church ELCA in Unity, where she also served as an organist. She will be remembered for her endless kindness, generosity and patience.

Survivors include her husband, Steve of 48 years; children: Jeremy (Melissa Ploeckelman) Brown of Colby, Erik (Gina) Brown of Hixton and Kati (Eric) Schoelzel of Colby; grandchildren: Ryder, Kinsley, Hayden, Tylan, Eastyn and Colby Brown, Braylon, Myla and Evy Schoelzel; brother, Dale (Arla) Thompson of Monroe, brothers and sisters-in-law: Tom (Sue) Brown of Hartford, Jeff (Cheryl) Brown of St. Cloud, MN, Mary Beth (David) Erfert of Houston, TX, Larry Brown of Wausau, Donna Brown of St. Paul, MN, Pat (Jodi) Brown of West Bend, Carol (John) Staab of Dorchester, Barb (Tom) Ritzinger of Rice Lake, Rob (Maggie) Brown of Marshfield and many nieces and nephews.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents, step-mother, mother and father-in-law and infant grandson, Zayne.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Unity. The Rev. Teri Hanson will officiate. Interment is to follow at Pine Hill Cemetery in Curtiss. Family and friends are welcome from 9:00 a.m. until time of service Tuesday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, Memorials will be designated to a worthy cause in Karen’s memory.

Halpin, Leila M. (17 April 1936 – 16 May 2024)

Leila M. Halpin, age 88, of Loyal, passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2024, at her home.

Leila Mae Banks was born on April 17, 1936, in Rib Lake, the daughter of Clarence H. and Mary E. (Ehrenreich) Banks. She grew up and received her education in Rib Lake, graduating from Rib Lake High School in 1954. Leila received a full three-year scholarship to St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Marshfield, and graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1957. During her junior year she met the love of her life Dennis R. Halpin. They married on May 24, 1958, at St. John Catholic Church in Rib Lake. They established their home on a farm Northeast of Loyal and raised eight children. Leila worked at St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield as a registered nurse until her fourth child was born in 1964. She then focused her efforts on family and farm life.

In 1991, she began working at Norwood Health Center in Marshfield and enjoyed her time there as a psychiatric nurse. Dennis was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 1988 and fought valiantly until he was welcomed into eternal rest in 1999. Leila retired from Norwood in November of 2008. She continued to live on the farm where she loved gardening, flowers, bird watching and working side by side with Dennis. Her continued perseverance and help from her family allowed her to stay at home.

She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and its P.C.C.W. She had many interests and especially loved spending time with her family and friends. Leila was an avid reader and loved to share books with June, her very dear friend. She also enjoyed cooking and baking, both her favorite recipes and new ones. In addition, she loved to embroider, sew, and even taught herself to knit. She spent many summer days on Lake Namakagon. Leila loved her Green Bay Packers, listening to music, watching car and horse racing, and basketball games, and was an immense supporter of Mission Myeloma, Inc., and many other nonprofit interests.

Leila will be dearly missed by her 8 children: Steve (Julie Vavrosky) of Bloomington, MN, Terry (Mike) Vechinski of Wausau, Pat (Jenny) of Greenwood, Mike (Kim) of Loyal, Danny (Lisa) of Loyal, Sue (Tom) Ritchie of Menomonie, Becky (Ken) Harm of Spencer, and Mary (Craig) Voss of Kimberly; 21 grandchildren: Tara (Paul) Harycki, Chelsie (Jackson) McMahon, Krystal (Jay) Groninger, Zach (Annie) Halpin, Eric Halpin, Evan Halpin, Ben (Noor) Vechinski, Tanya (Cliff) Parker, Terra Schwark, Lee Hoffman, Cody (Sara) Halpin, Jake Halpin, Justin Halpin, Nick (Mallory) Halpin, Ryan (Peyton) Ritchie, Luke Ritchie, Mark (Morgan) Harm, Nathan Harm (fiancé Alyssa Stoiber), Alaina Voss, Ellie Voss, and Sidney Voss; 16 great-grandchildren: Jada, Sam, Abe, Eli, Aleah, Quinn, Nora, Ivy, Leila, Kassidy, Damien, Damian, Ashley, Brittany, Finley, Camden and great-grandbaby #17 due in September.

She will also be dearly missed by her sister Nancy (Norm) Hahn of Eau Claire, her life-long friend June Hoeser, along with nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many special friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Dennis, on October 9, 1999, one sister, Barbara Scheller, and brother, Ronnie Banks.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Thursday, May 23, 2024, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Loyal. Rev. Emmanuel Famiyeh will officiate, and burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Pallbearers will be Eric Halpin, Ben Vechinski, Cody Halpin, Jake Halpin, Nick Halpin, Ryan Ritchie, Mark Harm & Nate Harm. Visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, from 4pm to 8pm and again on Thursday from 9:30 am until time of service.

In lieu of flowers, Leila's family asks that donations be given to Mission Myeloma, Inc. in support for Denny’s battle with multiple myeloma and all others who struggle with this cancer; www.missionmyeloma.org . Mission Myeloma, Inc. (a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization) was co-founded by Dennis and Leila’s daughter, Mary, to support patients and their families affected by multiple myeloma and to fund research for a cure.

Lucht, Eugene E. “Gene” (3 May 1928 – 18 May 2024)

Eugene “Gene” E. Lucht, 96, Spencer, passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at Marshfield Medical Center.

 
Gene was born on May 3, 1928, in Town of Sherman, Clark County to Arthur and Lena (Sorenson) Lucht. He attended grade school at Spokeville in the Town of Sherman and Loyal High School. Gene met Dona Lindekugel on a blind date arranged by his cousin Alan Voigt. They would later be united in marriage on August 11, 1951, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Loyal and celebrated 72 years together.
Gene and Dona farmed in Spokeville for 15 years before moving to Spencer in 1966 where Gene worked as a mechanic at the Farmers Co-op. He also was a volunteer fireman for 40+ years and was a member of the Edgar Steam Club. Gene enjoyed going to car shows with his Model T and playing accordion and keyboard by ear, since he couldn’t read music. He also took great pride in mowing his lawn and keeping his yard pristine.


He is survived by his wife, Dona, sons, Michael (Luane) Lucht and Mark (Susanne) Lucht, all of Spencer, grandchildren, Kami (Brian) Haffenbredl of Bessemer, MI, Mathew (Kristi) Lucht of Spencer, and Jake Lucht (Joelle Frey) of Unity, great grandchildren, Logan, Steve, Jameson, and Averilyn. He is further survived by his sister in law, Darlene Lucht.


He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Steve Lucht (who died unexpectedly in 2010), granddaughter, Stacie Lucht, and brother, Gerald Lucht.


A memorial service will be held 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at Christ Lutheran Church, Marshfield with visitation from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Rev. Andrew Belt will officiate. Burial will take place in Loyal Lutheran Cemetery at a later date.
Memorials can be designated to Christ Lutheran Church in Marshfield.

Reinwand, Gilbert D. (30 April 1932 – 15 May 2024)

Gilbert D. Reinwand, age 92, passed away peacefully on May 15, 2024, at his home with his daughter’s by his side.

Gilbert graced the world with his presence on April 30, 1932, in Loyal, born to Earl and Florence Reinwand. In 1952, he graduated from Loyal High School. His life intertwined with that of Bernadine Winker, whom he lovingly wed at Sacred Heart in 1956; she peacefully departed in 2012.

Throughout his journey, Gilbert engaged in various occupations, many of which found him laboring with Garber’s. A devout Catholic, he dedicated himself to his faith and held a cherished membership with the Knights of Columbus. His hands possessed the skill to mend anything from small engines to automobiles. Gilbert found joy in attending Polka masses during his travels and delighted in the art of song.

He is survived by his children, Andrew Reinwand of Granton, Timothy Reinwand of Stevens Point, Richard (Michelle) Reinwand of Wisconsin Rapids, Terry Reinwand of Wisconsin Rapids, Dominic Reinwand of Wisconsin Rapids, Jalaine (Mathew) Britton of Wisconsin Rapids, Christopher (Diane) Reinwand of Custer and Valerie (Victor) Kedrowski of Stevens Point. He is further survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and all his siblings.

A Mass of Christian Burial will honor his life at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 21, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Marshfield, led by Father Nathan. He will then be laid to rest at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Marshfield. Prior to the service, a visitation for friends and family will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, starting from 9:00 a.m.

James D. “Jim” Arch, age 64, of Greenwood, passed away at Marshfield Medical Center in Marshfield, on Friday, May 24, 2024.

James Dean Arch was born on June 3, 1959, in Marshfield, to Ernest J. and Mildred L. (Podobnik) Arch. He was raised and received his education in Greenwood, graduating from Greenwood High School in 1977. After high school, Jim worked at Nelson Muffler in Neillsville, while farming the family farm. He then attended UW-Marshfield for one year, and then UW-Madison for one year, studying Agriculture & Agronomy. In 1991, he entered the Peace Corps, where he served for 2 years and met his future wife-to-be. Jim was united in marriage to Yolanda M. Zavala-Escobar on June 4, 1994, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Willard. They farmed crops in Greenwood, and he started his own business, Arch Crop Consulting. In 2013, Jim went to work for the Clark County Land & Conservation Department in Neillsville, where he worked until the present time as the Director.

He had many interests, but especially enjoyed gardening/farming, cars, fixing things, classic rock music, and helping others. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, where he served on the church board, and was a member of various committees over the years.

He will be dearly missed by his wife, Yolanda, of Greenwood; one son: Steven of Madison; one brother: William "Bill" of Greenwood; two sisters: Nancy Arch Karlin (Jim) of Westlake, CA; Karyn Johnson of Evergreen, CO; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Jim was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 31, 2024, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Willard. Rev. Emmanuel Famiyeh will officiate, and burial will follow in Holy Family Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church, on Friday, from 9 a.m. until time of service. Lunch/celebration of life will follow the service located in the church hall.

Kaczor, Bonnie Mae #2 (26 January 1947 - !9 December 2023)

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Bonnie Mae Kaczor on December 19th, 2023, at the age of 76. Born in Neillsville, to Joe and Loretta Kaczor, Bonnie was a unique and cherished presence to those who knew her.

Known for her love of cats and devout Lutheran faith, Bonnie was the "cool" aunt who gave the best gifts and never missed sending cards for all occasions to those she cared about. She lived life according to her terms, marching to the beat of her own drum, and leaves an indelible mark on those who knew her.

Bonnie is lovingly remembered by her sister, Alice Wood, and brother, Leon Kaczor, as well as her five nephews-T.J., Josh, Paul, Nicholas, and Joey-and two nieces, Lisa and Laura.

A memorial service to honor and remember Bonnie will be held at 11:00 a.m. on June 5, 2024, at the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville, WI. Visitation will be from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 5th also at the Gesche Funeral Home.

Langjahr, Arvin L. (22 November 1933 – 27 May 2024) With Flag

Arvin L. Langjahr, age 90, of Unity, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Monday, May 27, 2024, at Abbotsford Health Care Center under the tender care of St. Croix Hospice.

Arvin was born on November 22, 1933, the son of Arvin T. and Velma (Henke) Langjahr in Riplinger. He joined the U.S. Army in 1956 and was discharged in 1959 with the rank of Staff Sergeant. On April 8, 1961, Arvin was united in marriage to Eleanor Murphy at Trinity Lutheran Church in Unity. He worked for the Harmony Feed Mill in Colby, Johnson’s Garage in Colby, Wilderness Campers in Unity and Wisconsin Homes in Marshfield, retiring after 20 years.

Arvin was a member of the Edgar Steam Show, Eau Claire Pioneer Show and the Plainfield Old Thrashers Steam Show. He enjoyed collecting John Deere tractors and antique machines. Arvin liked to work out in the garage and yard. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Arvin is survived by his wife of 63 years, Eleanor; five sons: Arvin J. of Antigo, Allen (Julie) of Owen, Dale (Cindy) of Marshfield, Larry of New Richmond and Paul (Kay) of Marshfield; 13 grandchildren and over 20 great-grandchildren. He is further survived by his brother Ellis (Ruth) of Marinette and his sister, Lois Spangler of Wausau; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters: Doris Drexler and Irene Edblom and three brothers: Neil, Harold and Donald.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 3, 2024, at the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford with the Rev. Teri Hanson officiating. Family and friends are welcome from 12:00 p.m. until time of service on Monday. Interment will follow with Military Honors provided by the Colby VFW Post #2227 at Colby Memorial Cemetery.

Lesniewski, Richard Adam “Rich” (18 October 1949 – 26 May 2024)

Richard A. "Rich” Lesniewski, age 74, of Thorp, passed away at Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire, on Sunday, May 26, 2024.

Richard Adam Lesniewski was born on October 18, 1949, in Stanley, to Frank E. and Lorraine A. (Bieniarz) Lesniewski. He was raised and received his education in Thorp, graduating from Thorp High School in 1967. After completing high school, Rich moved to Milwaukee and went to work for Harley-Davidson. He was united in marriage to Diane M. Mamayek on December 10, 1977, at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church in Thorp. They moved back to Thorp in July of 1978 and Rich went to work for the family business, Thorp Floor Covering. In the early 1980's, he went to work for the Thorp Post Office as a rural mail carrier, which he did for more than 30 years, retiring in October of 2015.

Rich had many interests, but especially loved riding his Harley, wood carving, family traditions and their Polish heritage; like making sausage and hundreds of pounds of sauerkraut, bowling with his Thorp Dairy Bar bowling team, coffee with the guys at Bob's Corner Garage, reading and watching anything and everything that pertained to WWII history, showcasing his artistic talent for drawing by face painting Erin, Desiree, and friends for school events, like football games. He was a big Packer fan, except when they were playing the Bears. He was a member of St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church.

He will be dearly missed by his wife, Diane, of Thorp; two daughters: Erin Lesniewski-Copeland (partner Steve Alton) of Menomonie, and Desiree Lesniewski-Theisen (Michael) of Eau Claire; five grandchildren: Ella Copeland, Dylan and Drew Alton, Olivia and Damian Theisen; two siblings: MaryAnn (Tom) Smasal of Thorp, and Robert (Janet) Lesniewski of Eau Claire; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Rich was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church with Rev. Stanislaus Michael Antony officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday, from 9 a.m. until time of service.

Wolf, James Michael “Jim” (19 March 1946 – 22 May 2024) With Flag

James “Jim” Michael Wolf, 78, of Chili, passed away on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at his home. A celebration of Jim’s service to our country is planned at the High Ground later this summer.

Jim was born on March 19, 1946, to George and Gladys Wolf in Marshfield. He graduated from Granton High School in 1964 and went on to join the Army, honorably serving our country during the Vietnam War. Upon his return, he held numerous jobs but spent many years as a project coordinator for Kmart Corporation, traveling throughout the United States to remodel and build new stores.

Jim enjoyed fishing trips and hunting whitetail with the guys in Wisconsin and Iowa. You could often find Jim watching the wildlife from the front porch of his home farm, where he resided for nearly the past 20 years until his passing. He will always be remembered for his insatiable sweet tooth. His children loved visiting Jim for his bottomless jellybean jar and every type of candy bar imaginable.

Jim is survived by his children, Paul and Janet Wolf of Chili, and Peter and Shani Wolf of Merrifield, MN; his grandchildren, Markielly Wolf, Cooper Wolf, and Zachary Wolf; and his great-grandson, Arlo Anderson. He is also survived by his siblings, Ron (Sandy) Wolf of Chili, Susan (Michael) Luebke of Pound, David (Jane) Wolf of Chili, Mary (Dan) Gallichio of New Port Richey, FL, Joan Wolf of Princeton, Tom (Joan) Wolf of Wisconsin Rapids, Tony (Diane) Wolf of Chili, John (Rhonda) Wolf of Chili, and his sister-in-law, Deb Steiner of Stratford.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Gladys Wolf, and his brother, Michael Wolf.


Jim will be deeply missed by his family and friends, but his memory will live on in their hearts forever.
