Dear History Buffs,
I am trying to determine if a 4000-acre tract of land granted to a possible ancestor of mine, John Rathbone, was located in what is now Clark County, particularly in the area of Humbird. He received the land by an Act of Congress, dated June 1, 1796, entitled "An Act regulating the grants of Land appropriated for Military services" as compensation for his service in the Revolutionary War. The tract is described as being "the Third quarter of the Fourth township in the Nineteenth Range of the Tract appropriated." John Rathbone owned a boat named the "Humbird," and my Father, James Colburn Rathbone, was born in Humbird, WI. I am trying to determine if there is a connection.
If anyone can shed any light on this puzzle, I'd love to hear from you!
Thank you in advance for your asssistance.
Cordially, Robert R. Rathbone, rcube@gwi.net
