Purkis, Edward George (8 Dec. 1863 - 19 Feb. 1947)
Funeral services for Edward Geo. Purkis of Unity, who died of a cerebral hemorrhage Feb. 19 at the Marshfield, Wisconsin Hospital at the age of 83 years, were held Sunday afternoon. Rev. J. A. Olson conducted the 1:30 o’clock service at the Purkis home, where the body had been lying in state, and at 2:00 o’clock at the Trinity Lutheran church. Internment was made in the Colby (Colby, Clark Co. Wis.) Cemetery.
Mr. Purkis was born at South Hampton, England. He was married to Laura Gregerson in Spencer in 1886. They observed their golden wedding in 1936. For the past 17 years, Mr. and Mrs. Purkis resided in Unity. He was town clerk for 33 years, justice of the peace for 17 years, a member of the Trinity Lutheran church and the Odd Fellows Lodge of which he was past noble grand.
Surviving are his widow; three sons, Ed Purkis, Jr., of Oak Park, Ill., Frank Purkis of Lisle, Ill., and Clyde Purkis of Unity; 14 grand children and 19 great grand children. William Purkis of Unity and Mrs. Bessie Jacobson of Milwaukee preceded their father in death.
