Zahorka, John Sr. (18 June 1857 - 31 Mar. 1947)
John Zahorka, Sr., aged 89 years, and pioneer resident of the town of Holton, died at his home in Milan on Monday at 1 p.m. Funeral services will be held at St. Thomas Catholic church Thursday at 2 p.m., the Rev. Raymond Schultz officiating.
John Zahorka was born June 18, 1857, at Prahatic, Bohemia. At the age of 24 years he came to America and settled at Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Here he was united in marriage to Theresa Cerny in 1883. He was a blacksmith in Bohemia and at Milwaukee and then moved to a farm in the town of Holton which was then all wilderness. About 25 years ago they retired and came to Milan where they lived with their son John. His wife preceded him in death.
Surviving are two sons, John, at home, and Wenzel of Milwaukee; three daughters, Mrs. Josephine Schade, Neillsville; Mrs. Mary Schade, Colby; and Mrs. Anna Dunne of Milwaukee; 10 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
