Schoelzel, August (24 Aug. 1865 - 6 Aug. 1947)
August Schoelzel passed away at his home Wednesday evening at 9:15 P.M. Death resulted following a stroke suffered early Sunday morning. Funeral arrangements have not been made as the Phonograph is being printed this Thursday morning.
Mr. Schoelzel was born on August 24, 1865, in Laskowitz, West Preussen, Germany. At the age of 17 years he moved to Chicago where he became engaged in mason work. He was married there to Anna Schulz on July 3, 1892. In April, 1893, they moved to a farm southwest of Colby, now operated by their son, Rudolph. In September, 1920, they moved to the city of Colby where they have lived since.
Surviving are his wife, one son, Rudolph, of Colby and three daughters - Mrs. Herbert (Helena) Meyers of Curtiss, Mrs. John (Ella) Leonhard and Mrs. Walter (Meta) Bahn, both of Lake Geneva. Also surviving are one sister, Mrs. Emma Spiering of California, two brothers, Robert of Chicago and Charles of Colorado, 33 grand children and eight great grand children. One daughter preceded him in death.
The deceased was well known as a good Christian, of a kindly and congenial disposition and will be missed by a host of friends.

Funeral services for August Schoelzel, whose death was reported last week, were held Sunday afternoon at the First Ev. and Reformed church, Rev. J. C. Klingeberger officiating, and internment was made in the Colby (Colby, Clark Co. Wis.) Cemetery. Pall bearers were Rudy Schoelzel, Jr., Gerald Schoelzel, Eugene Leonhard, Oliver Leonhard, Herbie Meyers and Chester Bahn, all grand sons. Grand daughters were in charge of the flowers and were Lenor Meyers, Marjorie Leonhard, Ellen Leonhard, Doris Schoelzel, Darlene Schoelzel and Beatrice Schoelzel.
Out of town people here for the funeral were Mrs. Bertha Schulz, Mrs. Anna Holtz, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Schulz, all of Plainview, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. John Leonhard, John, Oliver, Eugene and Ellen Leonhard, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Bahn and son, Chester, all of Lake Geneva, Wis., Darlene, Doris and DuWayne Schoelzel of Sheboygan, Mrs. Louis Yanks and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Yanks of Rib Lake, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Jones of Stratford, Mr. and Mrs. Allie Gutenberger of Greenwood, Victor and Ed Spiering of Chicago, Mrs. Emma Spiering of Altadena, Calif., Mr. and Mrs. Fred Luepke of Spencer, Mr. and Mrs. Willie Palmer of Woodstock, Ill., Miss Evelyn Radtke of Wausau, Rudy Schoelzel of Prairie du Chien, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Rodnynez of California.
Lunch was served about 60 relatives at the church hall.
