Bruesewitz, Harold Edwin (20 Jan. 1921 - 25 Jan. 1945)

Final rites were conducted for Sgt. Harold E. Bruesewitz of Spencer, Wis., whose body was returned from Europe. Services were conducted on Thursday afternoon, Dec. 4th, at the Swarthout Funeral Home at Spencer and at 2:00 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran church, north of the village, Rev. H. C. Hinz officiating. Burial took place in the West Spencer cemetery. The Huber-Schmitt-Bruesewitz V.F.W. post of Colby and the American Legion post of Spencer conducted the military rites.

Pall bearers were Donald Prehn, Clarence Gruenwald, Herbert Schwantes, Lawrence Neuman, Russell Sampson and Lester Morrison. Those in charge of the flowers were Mrs. Ray Parette, Mrs. George Schwantes, Mrs. Fred Gumz and Mrs. Ed Huber.

The firing squad consisted of Arnie Strathman, Orville Baumgart, Elroy Augustine, Bill Hedler, David Stieber and Charles Allmann with Howard Rannow in charge. Color bearers were Milford Frome and Angus Lamont, Jr. Color guards were Harry Strathman and Mike Steber. Also paying respect were approximately 35 members of the V.F.W. and Auxiliary of Colby, Wis.

Sgt. Bruesewitz is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bruesewitz of Spencer, Wis. He was followed in death by his brother who lost his life while serving his country in Italy.
