Gutenberger, Eileen (Marriage - 16 June 1948)

Eileen Gutenberger, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elroy Gutenberger of Colby, and Melvin Bender, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Bender of Abbotsford were married at St. Mary’s Catholic church at Colby Wednesday, June 16, Rev. Francis J. Brockman officiating. Miss Evelyn Andrew was maid of honor and Virginia Bender, sister of the groom, was bridesmaid. The groom was attended by Herbert Waldhart and James Gutenberger, brother of the bride.

The bride was attired in a gown of white marquisette over satin, high neckline, bertha appliquéd with roses, two appliqués on skirt, train, long sleeves with points at wrist, fingertip veil, headdress of pearlized orange blossoms. Her bouquet consisted of white and deep pink roses and lilies. The maid of honor wore a dress of aqua taffeta with short puffed sleeves, sweetheart neckline, full skirt. She also wore a rhinestone necklace, a gift of the bride. Her wrist corsage consisted of white and pink carnations. The bridesmaid wore a peach colored dress, similar to that of the maid of honor. Her bouquet was also similar as well as her necklace, also a gift of the bride. The bride’s mother, the groom’s mother and the bride’s grand mother wore corsages of carnations.

A reception was given at the home of the bride’s parents which was decorated with white, peach and aqua streamers and white bells. Dinner was served 45 guests and supper was served 80 guests. A dance was given at Walter’s pavilion in the evening.

The couple left on a short wedding trip to Northern Wisconsin and will be at home after June 21st at Abbotsford, Route 1.

The bride is a graduate of Colby High School, class of 1946, and had been employed the past two years in Milwaukee and Colby, Wisconsin. The groom graduated from Dorchester High School in 1941. He is now employed at the Cloverfarm Cheese Factory, Dorchester, Wisconsin.
