Sommers, Lena Elsie (19 Apr. 1879 - 9 Feb. 1948)

Mrs. Lena Sommers of Unity, Rt. ? died at the age of 68 years at 10:?? A.M. Sunday at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, where she had been a patient since Jan. 5th.

The body had been lying in state at the Lulloff Funeral Home in Colby until funeral services which were held Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock at the First Evangelical and Reformed church, Rev. F. P. Puhlmann officiating, and internment was made in the Colby (Colby, Clark Co. Wis.) Cemetery. Pall bearers were Fred Olson, Alvin Brehm, Rudy Pfab, Elroy Brehm and Paul Schmitt.

Mrs. Sommers, nee Winkler, was born in Germany April 19th, 1879.

Funeral services for Lena Elsie Sommers, whose death was reported last week, were held Wednesday, Feb. 11, at the First Evangelical and Reformed church, Rev. F. P. Puhlmann officiating, and internment was made in the Colby (Colby, Clark Co. Wis.) Cemetery. Pall bearers were Fred Olson, Charles Huhn, Rudolph Pfab, Alvin Brehm, Paul Schmitt and Gust Brehm. The flowers were in charge of Iris Brotherton, Ella Haas, LaVonne Klessig, Elaine Haas, Helen Haas, Patricia Bischener and Janet Olson.

Mrs. Sommers, nee Winkler, was born in Saxony, Germany, and came to the United States with her parents at the age of 11 years and settled in the town of Kiel. She was married to Bruno Sommers at Colby April 18, 1899. Mr. Sommers died in March 25, 1925. For the past two years she kept house for her son in law, Reinhold Schroeder, until entering St. Joseph’s hospital, Marshfield, Jan. 5, 1948, where she died of cancer Feb. 9th.

Surviving children are George Sommers of Loyal, Henry Sommers of Colby, Carl Sommers of Unity and a son in law, Reinhold Schroeder of Spencer, Wis. Surviving sisters and brothers are Walter Winkler of Westboro, Fred Winkler of Chelsea, Wm. Winkler of Rib Lake, Rose Winkler of Wilmuth, Ill., Hannah Witteneben of Abbotsford and a sister in law, Amanda Buchholtz of Chicago. There are four grand children and one great grand child. One son, Paul, died at the age of five years and a daughter, Mrs. Reinhold (Rose) Schroeder, died June 21, 1933.

Out of town people here for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. George Sommers of Loyal, Amanda Buchholtz of Chicago, Rose Winkler of Willnette, Ill., Walter Winkler of Westoboro, William Winkler of Rib Lake, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Wirteneben, Richard Cox and Mr. and Mrs. Morris Anderson of Abbotsford, Reinhold Schroeder and Arthur C. Schroeder of Spencer, Mrs. Pete Ertl and son, Roger Dale, of Unity, Mr. and Mrs. Emil Mellenthin and Mrs. Eldred Mellenthin and daughter of Spencer, Wis.
