Thieme, Bertha (5 Aug. 1880 - 3 Apr. 1948)
Mrs. Fred Thieme passed away at her home in Colby, Wisconsin on Saturday morning, April 3, at 2:30 a.m. She had been ill with asthma the past 20 years. Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon, April 6th, at the Zion Lutheran church in Colby, Wis., Rev. O. Hoffmann officiating, and internment was made in the Green Grove cemetery. Six sons acted as pall bearers and the flowers were in charge of Arlene Gustafson, Pheeta Stammer, Muriel Brehm, Adell Brehm, Marlene Hibbard and JoAnne Markus.
Mrs. Thieme, the former Bertha Koehler, was born in Germany on August 5th, 1880, thus reaching the age of 67 years, seven months and 28 days. She came to the United States with her parents when two years of age. She married Fred Thieme on April 20, 1902, in Curtiss. They lived on a farm near Curtiss until four years ago when they retired and moved to Colby, Wisconsin.
Surviving are her husband and 10 children - Alvin Thieme of Spencer, Mrs. Seymour (Esther) Gustafson of Unity, Mrs. Oliver (Rose) Stammer, Mrs. Elroy (Helen) Brehm and Franklin, Adolph and Raymond Thieme of Colby, Harold and Arnold Thieme of Racine and Mrs. Harold (Lorraine) Ott of Marshfield. Also two sisters, Mrs. Herman Jochinain of Sheboygan and Mrs. Leslie McMillen of Janesville. There are 24 grand children. One daughter, Minnie, died in childhood and two sisters and one brother also preceded her in death.
The deceased was a faithful member of the Lutheran church and always endeavored to perform her duties well. Like all early pioneers, she was of a congenial disposition and was well-liked by all who knew her.
Out of town people here for the funeral were Mrs. Herman Jochensen of Sheboygan, Mrs. Leslie McMullin of Janesville, Mr. and Mrs. Morris Thieme of Phillips, Mr. and Mrs. Otto Thieme, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Thieme, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Klemm, Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Klemm, Mrs. Arthur Thieme of Whittlesey, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Kevikko, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Newman, Alfred Newman, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Tonn, August Buhholz and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Theo. Frane of Curtiss, Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Schwarze, Durward Schwarze of Granton, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Aumann of Jefferson, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Kippenhan of Loyal, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Singstock, Mr. and Mrs. Theo. Frome, Mrs. Herbert Meyers, Mrs. Aug. Schoelzel, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Kademann.
