Gries, Audrey Ann (Marriage - 9 July 1952)
Miss Audrey Ann Gries, daughter of Alphonse Gries of Cable, Wis., and Michael Joseph Stieber, son of Mrs. Roman Stieber, were united in marriage Wednesday morning, July 9, at a solemn high mass in St. Mary’s Catholic church in Colby with Father Joseph Rauch of Francis Creek, cousin of the bride, as celebrant; Father N. Beschta of Colby, deacon; and Father Schultz of Abbotsford, sub deacon. Miss Angeline Volhard of Marathon, cousin of the groom, was maid of honor and Miss Geraldine Lyons of Wausau, cousin of the groom, and Mrs. David Stieber of Colby, sister-in-law of the groom, were bridesmaids. The groom was attended by his twin brother, Joseph Stieber, as best man and Adrian R. Gries of the U.S. Navy, brother of the bride, and David Stiber, brother of the groom.
The bride was attired in a full length gown of white satin accentuated by Chantilly lace floating over layers of bouffant nylon tulle and into a scalloped court train neckline of bodice edged with rhinestones, close fitting cap trimmed with rhinestones and finger tipped veil edged with Chantilly lace. Her bouquet consisted of purple orchids surrounded by white roses in crescent shape. The maid of honor wore a light orchid strapless full length gown with lace edged bodice and jacket. Her over-arm bouquet consisted of yellow roses and white mums. The bridesmaids wore dresses similar to that of the maid of honor and their fan-shaped bouquets consisted of yellow and white roses.
A breakfast was served to the bridal party at the home of the bride’s uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Eder. A reception and dinner was served at St. Mary’s auditorium. Home decorations consisted of orchid and white streamers and white wedding bells.
After a wedding trip along the Mississippi River to the South central part of the United States, the couple will be at home after July 20, 1952, in Colby, Wis.
The groom is a partner in the Stieber Bottle Gas Service of Colby, Wis.
Out of town guests for the wedding were from Chicago, Ill., Milwaukee, Madison, Eau Claire, Wausau, Marathon, Merrill, Mosinee, Edgar, Appleton, Menasha, Spencer, Hilbert and Francis Creek.
