Bender, Betty Jean (Marriage - 25 Oct. 1952)
Miss Betty Jean Bender, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Bender of Colby, and Dr. Frank F. Nelson of Colby, son of Mr. and Mrs. Philip Nelson of Kenosha, were united in marriage in the Methodist church of Colby Saturday evening, Oct. 25th, at 7:00 o’clock at a candle-light service, Rev. Harvey Schall reading the marriage ceremony. Miss Barbara Bender, sister of the bride, was maid of honor and Alice Bender, sister-in-law of the bride, was bridesmaid. The groom was attended by Orland Otis of Madison, a friend, and Brice Bender of Colby, Wis. Diane Bender and Duane Bender, twin children of Mr. and Mrs. Brice Bender, acted as flower bearer and ring bearer, respectively.
Ushers were Donald Umland of Kenosha, a friend of the groom, and Melvin Bender of Dorchester, a cousin of the bride.
Annabelle Klaar, accompanied by Audrey Whitney, sang "Oh, Perfect Love," and "The Lord’s Prayer." The church was decorated with palm and chrysanthemums.
The bride was attired in a white satin gown with a short train, long-fitted sleeves, fitted bodice with rolled collar heading to a V-neckline, unpressed pleats in the skirt and fingertip veil. Her bouquet consisted of white chrysanthemums of various sizes and lemon leaves. Her attendants wore identical gold satin formals, with gathered skirts and short sleeved jackets and their bouquets consisted of yellow and bronze chrysanthemums.
For her daughter’s wedding, Mrs. Bender wore a plum-colored suit with an orchid corsage and a plum velvet hat. The groom’s mother wore a blue-grey dress trimmed with sequins with an orchid corsage and a pink hat.
A reception was held at the Methodist church parlors after which the newlyweds left on a wedding trip to Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minn. They will be at home after October 28 in Colby and will reside in the apartment above Dr. Fult’s optical office.
The bride is a graduate of the Wisconsin State College of Oshkosh and taught in the Medford and Shawano high schools. For the past year, she had been employed at the University library in Madison. Her husband is a graduate of the School of Medicine at the University of Wisconsin and is associated with the Country Clinic in Colby, Wis.
Out-of-town guests here for the wedding were from Shawano, Milwaukee, Madison, Kenosha, Birnamwood, Medford, Monroe and Richland Center.
