RHINELANDER -- Peter Joseph Steinwand, 79, of Rhinelander, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2008, at his home.

Private family services will be held.

Carlson Funeral Home of Rhinelander is assisting with the arrangements.

He was born Dec. 12, 1928, in Colby to Francis and Verena (Weix) Steinwand.

Peter graduated from Colby High School and then graduated from Michigan Tech University. He married his wife, Elizabeth, in 1948. Peter worked on Great Lakes ore boats and then was employed for 20 years as a forester for Nekoosa-Port Edwards Paper Co. He then began his career in real estate and was associated with Hunter Realty and Gregory Realty.

Peter was an avid outdoorsman and especially enjoyed hunting.

Peter is survived by his former wife, Elizabeth Steinwand of Rhinelander; his five children, Linda Duellman of Rhinelander, Joseph Steinwand of Hancock, Mich., Kathy (Michael) Chambers of St. Germain, Elizabeth Steinwand of Marina, Calif., and Mary Ellen (Chester) Ennis of Carson City, Nev.; four grandchildren, Rich and John Duellman and Heather and Tanya Hill; and four sisters, Betty, Rosemary, Suzanne, and Kathleen.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Barbara, and a sister, Virginia.
