BELLA VISTA, Ark. -- Marilyn Elaine (Sipe) Tharp, 81, of Bella Vista, Ark., (33 year resident of Granton) passed away of a stroke Monday, Jan. 28, 2008, at Northwest Medical Center of Benton County in Bentonville, Ark. She was born Feb. 24, 1926, in Marengo, Morrow County, Ohio.

She graduated from Mount Gilead High School and attended both Ohio State University and the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. She married Victor V. Tharp on March 9, 1947, working together in his veterinary practice in Granton for more than 30 years.

After retiring from their veterinary practice in 1987, they moved to several locations for his work with the federal government, retiring to Bella Vista, Ark., in 1997. She was a long-time member of the Granton United Methodist Church and the York Center United Methodist Church. She enjoyed scripture, music, reading, current events and homemaking.

She was pre-deceased by her parents, Merrill and Mildred Sipe, one sister and two brothers.

She is survived by her husband, Victor Tharp of Bella Vista, Ark.; three children, Margaret Paulson (Philip Gerberding) of Wausau, Bethany Thomas (William Thomas) of St. Anthony, Minn., and Daniel Tharp (Sylvia Tharp) of Bastrop, Texas. Her grandchildren, Bethany VerKilen (James VerKilen) of Granton, Melony Becker (Douglas Becker) of Granton, Andrew Menon of Madison, Ryan Tharp of Oklahoma City, Okla., Joshua Tharp of San Marco, Texas, and Zachary Tharp, Bastrop, Texas, with six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Shirley Bollinger of Bloomville, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.

Private services are being held with the ashes taken back to her home farm in Ohio.

Arrangements are by the Bella Vista Funeral Home & Crematory, 2258 Forest Hills Blvd., Bella Vista, Ark.
