Haas, Ella Leona (Marriage - 10 Sept. 1953)
Miss Ella Leona Haas, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Haas of Unity, route 1, became the bride of Howard Lee Huckbody, son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Huckbody of Wausau, Wis., at a ceremony performed at Zion Lutheran church Saturday afternoon, Sept. 10th, Rev. O. Hoffmann reading the marriage ceremony. Donna Martin sang "O Promise Me," "Because" and "The Lord’s Prayer." Herbert Juneau of Abbotsford was organist.
The bride, who carried a white lace-covered Bible topped with white Amazon lilies and stephanotis, wore a satin gown designed with fitted bodice which had a Queen Anne collar and long fitted sleeves coming to points over the wrists. Satin-covered buttons closed the bodice front and sleeves and the bouffant skirt was entrained. A 60-year old veil, owned by her paternal grand mother, was attached to a cloche to complete the bridal ensemble.
Miss Pearl Randt of Wausau served as maid of honor for her cousin. She was frocked in blue and carried white Amazon lilies and baby mums interspersed with blue stephanotis and tied with a blue ribbon. The four bridesmaids - Miss Doris Haas, a sister of the bride, Miss Irene Haas, another sister of the bride, Mrs. Harold Baumgartner of Cook, Minn., a third sister, and Miss Marion Huckbody of Wausau, a sister of the groom - were all dressed in gold satin. They carried all-white bouquets of Amazon lilies, baby mums and stephanotis, tied with gold ribbons.
Mrs. Haas wore a grey dress with pink and black accessories for her daughter’s wedding and Mrs. Huckbody donned a beige dress which was trimmed with brown.
Milton Huckbody of Wausau was his brother’s best man. The groomsmen were Larry Huckbody of Wausau, another brother, Donald Busse of Abbotsford, a cousin of the bride, Harold Baumgartner of Cook, Minn., brother-in-law of the bride, and Felix Czerwinski of Wausau. Ushers were Jerome Schultz of Unity, a brother-in-law of the bride, and Eldon Radant of Wausau, a brother-in-law of the groom.
A dinner and reception were held at the home of the bride’s parents for approximately 300 guests after which the newlyweds left on a wedding trip to Northern Wisconsin and Chicago.
The couple will make their home in Wausau where the groom is employed at the Brokaw Paper Mill. He had attended vocational school in Wausau and spent four years in the U.S. Navy. The bride is a graduate of the Colby High School, has a two-year rural diploma from Central State College, Stevens Point. She taught a year in the rural school of Merrill City school system, and the past summer, was employed in the office of the Marathon Rubber Products Co. of Wausau.
